Ice Hotel Featured In
Quebec's Winter Fest
The Carnaval, held from January 26 through February 11,
features tobogganing, ice skating, snow-tubing, dog-sled races, and snow sculptures. And
this year, families can add the indoor adventure of an overnight stay at the Ice Hotel,
about a 10-minute drive from downtown Québec City. The property sits on a hill in
Montmorency Falls Park, where in winter the waterfall freezes into lacy ribbons.
The hotel can accommodate 22 people, and each of the its six suites features beds, chairs,
and desks carved from blocks of ice. Moonlight glows through windowlike thin areas in the
walls, intensifying the fairy-tale feel. Before bedtime, you can admire the ice-carved
replicas of 19th-century sleighs and snowshoes in the art gallery, or see Nanook of the
North in the movie theater with its ice-carved seats. A tour of the Ice Hotel costs
C$12 per person. Overnight rates, which include a full American breakfast, are C$150 per
person, double occupancy; C$140 per person, triple occupancy; and C$120 per person for
58 people. visit the Ice
Hotel Web site.
