New Disney Theme Park
Travel agents, media and industry executives got a preview
of the latest Disney development here earlier this month: Walt Disney
Resort's California Adventure theme park, a $4.1-billion development that
includes a 751-room luxury hotel, the Grand Californian.
The hotel itself opened in early January, but it was the new theme park
that agents were waiting for. The resort, which also includes the Downtown
Disney nightlife and shopping esplanade that also opened in January, has a
total of 2,200 rooms spread over 430 acres--excluding the nearly 50-acre
harbor plot reserved for a third Disney attraction. The original
Disneyland parking lot is the site of this new expansion, which Disney
executives hope will make the resort a popular choice for longer vacation
stays.
