Wild Creatures In Fort Worth

A new kind of complex for the Fort Worth Zoo, Texas Wild focuses on the diversity of creatures and habitats within an entire region instead of presenting just a few species native to an area. Six re-created environments feature more than 200 indigenous animals.

Bison and Mexican wolves roam the Hill Country; wild turkeys and black-footed ferrets dot the Short Grass Prairie; American alligators and black bears live in the Pineywoods and Swamps; sea turtles and shrimp swim in the Coastal Marsh; bobcats and ocelots lurk in the Brush Country; and tarantulas, scorpions, and centipedes crawl around in the Mountains and Desert area.

Kids will like the daily flight demonstrations of raptors, such as the red-tailed hawks and peregrine falcons; the petting zoo with its goats, pigs, and longhorn calf; and especially the Discovery Center's film about Texas's fierce weather, complete with rain and wind you can actually feel.

The Fort Worth Zoo is located at 1989 Colonial Pkwy. Admission is $8.50 for adults, $6 for ages 3–12. For more information, call +1 (817) 871-7050, or visit the Fort Worth Zoo Web site.
