On a dozen flights each day,
the nation’s eighth-largest airline will offer meals costing between
three and ten dollars. A spokeswoman says if the experiment proves
successful, the airline may begin selling meals on all its flights
longer than two and a half hours. With the industry under tremendous
pressure to cut costs, other airlines acknowledge that they’re
considering following America West’s lead. Some analysts predict
passengers will balk at the idea of paying for airline food. But
industry consultant Terry Trippler says the effort could improve the
quality of the food. He says in some cases, it couldn’t get much
