More No Frills Flying
Both Delta and United recently announced new low-fare/low-cost subsidiaries set to launch next spring, Delta’s on the East Coast and United’s on the West Coast. These new cheap carriers are specifically designed to compete with the existing low fare airlines, which are, quite frankly, kicking the Big Airlines’ collective tail sections. However, both Delta and United have been exceedingly coy about any details on these new cheap offshoots, refusing even to give them names yet. Delta did mention the cities of New York, Boston, Orlando, and Ft. Lauderdale, and estimated fares would start at $79 and be capped (at least on the initial set of routes) at $299.
