Airlines To Use "Eye In The Sky"

Passenger airliners will be fitted with closed-circuit television surveillance equipment to help control rowdy passengers and deter air rage when new rules currently under consideration come into effect.  Following similar legislation in the U.S., Canada and other countries, Britain introduced laws providing for two years in jail and $7,500 fine for passenger misbehavior on board jets, but the new rules affecting all airlines have been drawn up by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), based in Montreal, Canada. CAA officials said the organization was determined to take any measures necessary to ensure passenger safety. The CAA receives as many as 100 complaints each year of air rage among passengers, but some are more serious than others. In one of the worst inflight incidents last year, a party of drunken travelers on an Airtours flight from London's Gatwick airport to Jamaica had a brawl that forced the plane to divert and land in Virginia. Two of those involved, Patrick Connors, 36, and Francis Coyle, 40, were detained by FBI agents and later sentenced to jail terms by a court in England.
