Discount Wedding Travel Packages US Airways Courts Wedding Goers US Airways has joined rival American Airlines in offering group discounts
for travel to weddings. The Pennsylvania-based airline's Wedding Program is similar to
discounts it already offers other groups, such as convention-goers. American introduced
"Wedding Event Travel," its version of nuptial discounts, in 1997. Under US
Airways' plan, parties of 10 or more can get discounts of 5 percent off the lowest
applicable fare and 10 percent off the unrestricted coach fare. They get another 5 percent
off for buying tickets at least 60 days in advance. The airline also offers an incentive
to the bride and groom by entering them in a contest for a trip to Bermuda. Winners
receive round-trip airfare from any city US Airways flies from, plus seven nights at the
Elbow Beach resort. Although other airlines offer group discounts, only US Airways and
American are directly wooing wedding travelers, according to Keith Harrison of American.
American was first and got its program off the ground in Weddings magazine in December
1997, said Harrison, the airline's marketing manager for group and meeting travel. |
